Rebecca A. Seguin-Fowler, PhD, is the CEO and Co-Founder of The StrongWomen / StrongPeople Program. She co-wrote the Strong Women Strength Training curriculum and managed StrongWomen from 2003 to 2008. She is currently the Associate Director for Texas A&M AgriLife Research; Chief Scientific Officer for the Healthy Texas Institute; and Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Nutrition, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She also serves as Director of the Healthy Living pillar at the Texas A&M AgriLife Dallas Center. Dr. Seguin-Fowler’s academic training is in food policy and applied nutrition (PhD), nutrition communications (MS), and exercise physiology (BS). She is also a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Her research is grounded in clinical and community-based intervention development and evaluation as well as dissemination research, curriculum development and adaptation, and training allied health professionals. Her current program focuses on understanding how people’s social, food, and physical activity environments influence behavior over time—particularly in underserved populations—as well as supporting community mobilization and capacity building initiatives. The goal is to provide training and evaluation tools to help engage residents to become involved in programs and policies to improve their food and physical activity environments through collective action.

Miriam E. Nelson, PhD
Co-Founder and Advisor to The StrongWomen / StrongPeople Program

Dr. Miriam E Nelson, PhD, is a dedicated social entrepreneur working on sustainability, public health, food systems, and civic engagement, with a track record of high-impact strategic planning, fundraising, and communications. In January 2020, Dr. Nelson was named Acting President and CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation, the nonprofit created by Paul Newman to continue his legacy of giving to charity all net profits and royalties from the sale of Newman’s Own food and beverage products. From 2015 to 2019, she served on the Newman’s Own, Inc., board of directors.
